Ask An Orthopedist: Rotator Cuff Tear

Question: My first rotator cuff tear was successfully repaired in 2003. I recently slipped on ice and jammed that same shoulder. A recent MRI shows that my tendon has completely torn from bone. Can the tendon be reattached to the bone?

Yes, the rotator cuff can be re-repaired. The MRI would show if there has been significant separation of the bone and tendon which might make repair difficult.
