Question: I fractured my tibia 7 months ago and am still in my cast. During my most resent check up this week, my doctor said that he can’t remove the cast because it has still not fully healed. Should I continue with my current treatment or seek some another doctors opinion? Is my pulmonary embolism having an affect on my healing process?
Seven months is a long time for getting a tibia fracture to heal but they sometimes can be slow to heal – the mid and lower parts of the tibia don’t have a great blood supply and tend to heal slowly. If you are not comfortable with the treatment you are receiving or what your doctor is telling you then by all means get a second opinion. Your pulmonary embolism has had no effect on the bone healing.
