After many years of providing care to patients at Azalea Orthopedics, Dr. William E. Schreiber, M.D. retired effective March 31, 2020. His career began in the 1970s following an education at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed Fellowships at the V.A. Hospital in Dallas and the Baylor Affiliated Hospital Program in Waco.
“Dr. Schreiber is a tremendous person and surgeon. His professionalism and senior leadership have been a true asset to Azalea Orthopedics. Colleagues, staff, and patients will greatly miss him,” says Anthony Brooks, CEO of Azalea Orthopedics. “He has made immeasurable contributions to healthcare, orthopedics and his community throughout his career.”
Dr. Schreiber has served on various committees and boards throughout his time as an Orthopedic Surgeon; including President of the Texas Orthopedic Association, Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a long-standing board member of Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital in Tyler, Texas. He specialized in arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, total knee replacements and sports medicine and saw patients in Palestine, Athens and in Tyler at the South Broadway location.
“I had always been interested in knee surgery and sports medicine. When arthroscopic surgery became available in the late 1970s, I went for training in Michigan and introduced this surgery to East Texas,” Schreiber explained. He is trained in the latest robotic technology using Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery as well. Dr. Schreiber held an interest in patient-physician communication and taught these skills to residents in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arkansas for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons for many years.
His wife, Barbara, and his children have supported him throughout the entirety of his career. Dr. Schreiber would like to thank all of his patients who entrusted their care to him over the years, along with his partners, staff, and the administration teams that have helped make the past 40 years such a wonderful experience. Azalea Orthopedics will tentatively hold a celebration to honor Dr. Schreiber as community guidelines allow.
