Question: I practice a style of Karate that involves a lot of body conditioning, particularly with the hands to make them hard and calloused. I recently heard that this type of training can lead to arthritis and loss of dexterity in the long term, Is any of this true?
Although you can hear and even read lots of things that are “out there”, there is no truth to this story. Joints are made to move and use and the use of these joints do not cause arthritis. Feel free to carry on with your karate.
