Dr. David Bowen specializes in Interventional Pain Management and the non-surgical treatment of spine injuries.
After graduating from Robert E. Lee High school in Tyler, Texas, he began his medical education by completing a double major in Biochemistry and Sociology from the University of Virginia. Following his undergraduate, he returned to Texas enrolling in medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, where he earned his Medical Degree and was named Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. The following year, Dr. Bowen transitioned to Virginia Commonwealth University and completed a General Surgery Internship and an Anesthesia Residency. He capped his medical education with a Pain Management Fellowship from The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.
Dr. Bowen’s clinical practice focuses on evaluating, diagnosing, and treating individuals suffering from chronic pain. These methods include conservative management with physical therapy, lifestyle changes, non-opioid medical management, and minimally invasive procedures. His clinical interests include spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, and minimally invasive procedures to treat pain. “Pain is our body’s way of letting us know we are in trouble or something is not right.” Says Dr. Bowen, “but when a major or traumatic injury occurs, the “pain” does not shut off. It can be numbing, sharp, and debilitating. My job is to find the source of the pain, and when possible, eliminate it. I’m blessed to see my work help patients return to a normal life following an injury.”
Dr. Bowen is the 24th physician added to the Azalea group. He joins Drs. Burlison, McNeil, Michaels, Tibiletti, and Schwarzbach to complete the Interventional Pain Management & Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation team.
“We are fortunate to live in a community that values education. Dr. Bowen is a prime example of the type of professional the Tyler Independent School District produces,” said Anthony Brooks, CEO, Azalea Orthopedics. “He is extremely talented and we are grateful he chose to return home to serve our community.”
