J.T. is an East Texas native, growing up in Rusk, just down the road. He served with the U.S. Army 173rd Airborne as a Paratrooper in Iraq and Afghanistan where he developed an interest in the medical field. Upon returning home, he set out on that journey starting with his Associates in nursing from Tyler Junior College. After that, he received his Bachelors in Nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington. He then went on to earn his Masters as a Nurse Practitioner from The University of Texas at Arlington as well.

He has worked in the operating room as a nurse for seven years with an emphasis on orthopedic and spine surgery.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and friends. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and outdoor racing. “My patients come to Dr. Kummerfeld and me because of pain and physical limitations. We will do our best to get them to where they physically want to be in life.”
