J.T. Matthews, FNP-C, is a board certified Nurse Practitioner working alongside Dr. David Kummerfeld as part of his medical team. J.T. is an East Texas native, growing up in nearby Rusk, Texas.

J.T. Matthews served with the U.S. Army 173rd Airborne as a Paratrooper in Iraq and Afghanistan where he developed an interest in the medical field. Upon returning home, he expanded his education by earning an Associates Degree in Nursing from Tyler Junior College. Afterwards, he was awarded his Bachelors in Nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington, where he went on to earn his Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner degree.

Along with his clinical work at the Azalea Orthopedics South Broadway office, J.T. assists Dr. Kummerfeld during his surgical cases.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and friends. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, and outdoor racing. “My patients come to Dr. Kummerfeld and me because of pain and physical limitations. We will do our best to get them to where they physically want to be in life.”
