What is
Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy, “OT”, is a discipline of rehabilitation to help people regain the skills, movement and strength necessary for functioning independently and at an optimal level in daily tasks, work, hobbies and sport.
The Occupational Therapists at Azalea Orthopedics treat shoulder orthopedic injuries, elbow and hand orthopedic injuries, and neurological and neuromuscular injuries. Treatment focuses on decreasing pain and swelling, increasing range or motion, increasing strength and endurance, conditioning for return to work, and conditioning for return to sport. Postural education is provided so that proper spine and shoulder alignment is attained and weaknesses are addressed to maximize strength and core stability of the entire upper body. The goal is to return people back to their pre-injury level of performance. In the case of severe orthopedic or neurological injuries, we help a person regain as much function as possible and adapt as needed for successful completion of daily living tasks and/or work.

What sets Azalea Orthopedics’
Occupational Therapists Apart?
Our Occupational Therapists receive specialized training in the rehabilitation of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand. They will work with your physician to design a treatment plan to best suit your individual needs. Our rehabilitation team have developed long-standing relationships with area physicians as well as physicians in the Dallas metroplex, Houston and Bryan/College Station. Referring physicians include orthopedic surgeons, plastic surgeons, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, pain management specialists, rheumatologists, and neurologists. Being an upper extremity specialty clinic, we also receive referrals from out of state physicians for people who have been injured while on vacation, out or state, or athletes who have had surgery performed by team physicians.
Our therapists are trained in the fabrication and application of custom made and off the shelf orthotics including static and dynamic splints, braces and casts. These devices are designed to either protect and limit motion or mobilize a joint to maximize range of motion and function. Your therapist will work with your physician to design an orthotic to best suit your needs based upon your condition and goal of the device.
