What Is
Minimally Invasive Surgery?
Minimally invasive surgery, or MI surgery, is a surgical procedure that uses a small, targeted incision instead of a large one. Traditionally, operations have been performed using a large-scale incision that exposes the entire joint or operating area.
This procedure is still effective for many surgeries, but it also leaves a large incision scar and soft-tissue damage surrounding the surgical site. Modern surgical technology allows us to perform many surgeries without the need for these large incisions, instead using one or more small, targeted incisions to pinpoint the affected area. Ultimately, this method allows the surgeon to cut less muscle resulting in reduced scar tissue, less damage to soft tissue areas, and makes the recovery process more comfortable for patients.
Minimally Invasive Non-Surgical Solutions
Not all patients are candidates for surgical procedures; more importantly, surgery should only be considered after conservative methods have been exhausted. Our non-surgical specialists treat back/neck pain, joint pain, nerve injuries, painful musculoskeletal conditions, and sports injuries with several minimally invasive procedures such as: joint injections, spinal cord stimulation, and nerve blocks. Many of these techniques are performed without the use of general anesthesia; alternatively, our physicians use a local anesthetic to numb the focused area. Many of these procedures do not require hospitalization. Our specialists are at the forefront of technology, and we use advanced procedure methods like ultrasound guided injections for accurate, precise delivery of medication to the affected joint.
